(Riverton, Wyo.) – David Kellner is a sales associate at Wind River Realty. David began his real estate career earlier this year, and his background in finance gives him a unique perspective into the processes of buying and selling a home. We caught up with David recently to learn a little more about him, what he’s learned about real estate, and how he can help his clients achieve their goals.
Q: How long have you worked in real estate?
A: I began my real estate career in February of this year. Since then, I’ve been involved in a number of transactions and have worked hard to learn from each client and serve them to the best of my abilities.
Q: What led you to a career in real estate?
A: I have always been interested in the housing market and helping others achieve their goals, and this career deals with both.
Q: What things have you learned, or what has surprised you most about this career?
A: I’m amazed at how much is involved in every transaction. There are so many behind-the-scenes details! I’ve also learned that I really love to help people find their perfect house. The biggest surprise so far has been how big the learning curve is. There is so much to learn. Even after taking exams and classes, you quickly realize you’ve only reached the tip of the iceberg as far as what you need to know.
Q: Why did you choose to work at Wind River Realty?
A: Olivia sold me my current home, and I really enjoyed the experience. I wanted to work where I could have fun and have the opportunity to be successful. The Wind River Realty logo is really cool too!
Q: What are your favorite things about your work?
A: My favorite thing about this career is that I get to help people achieve their goals.
Q: What are the worst parts of your career?
A: There are a lot of highs and lows that take some time to get used to. There are also a lot of demands on your family time.
Q: Tell us about a client who has really touched your life.
A: Every single customer has had an impact on me so far. I try to learn and improve from each client I have.
Q: What are your favorite ways to help buyers and sellers?
A: My goal is to help each person achieve his or her goals, and the way to do that is different for each customer. I’m committed to meeting or exceeding their expectations!
Q: What tips would you give someone thinking of selling in the next year?
A: Cleaning and de-cluttering your home would be my first recommendation. It makes a big difference!
Q: What is the first thing you would do if putting your house on the market?
A: I would clean, de-clutter, and do minor touch ups. They are easy steps to take that have a big impact.
Q: What is your favorite color for a house?
A: I like blue or tan.
Q: When did you buy your first home?
A: My first home purchase was in Burley, Idaho. I was just 23! But I knew right then that I never wanted to be a renter again.
Q: What is your favorite quote?
A: “Treat others as you would like to be treated.”
Q: What is your pet peeve?
A: I find it frustrating when people do not promptly respond to phone calls and e-mails.
Q: If you could live anywhere in Fremont County where would you live?
A: We made a good choice in moving to Riverton and feel like this is one of the best places in Fremont County to live. We love it here! But if I had the choice to live anywhere in the United States, I’d pick Hawaii. The climate is great and there are a lot of fun activities.
Q: What home improvements are you making?
A: Nothing major at this time – just some de-cluttering and yard cleanup.
Q: Which room in your house do you enjoy spending time in the most?
A: The living room is my favorite place in the house. It’s where I spend the most time with my family, which is very important to me.
Q: What do you do to stay active in the community?
A: I am a past president of Kiwanis. I have also coached many youth sports teams throughout the years.
Q: What is your hometown?
A: Torrington is my original hometown, however, I have now lived in Riverton longer than I lived in Torrington. Riverton is my hometown now and for the future.
Q: Tell us about your family.
A: My wife Jenny is a math instructor at CWC. We have two kids – our daughter Mackenzie is in ninth grade this year and our son Kaden is in seventh grade.
