Former LVHS Tiger Tanner Simpson earns athletic scholarship at UW

(Laramie, Wyo.) – Former Lander Tiger standout Sophomore Wide Receiver Tanner Simpson has been put on scholarship for the Wyoming Cowboys. The coaching staff offered the scholarship to Tanner two days ago,

Steve Simpson, Tanner’s dad, said his son worked through adversity to reach his goal of becoming a scholarship athlete. “Three years of scout team, numerous injuries, hard work, sweat, and blood have finally paid dividends,” Steve said in an email on Wednesday night. “This evening with a broken hand Tanner signed papers that put him on an athletic scholarship.”

Tanner was a walk-on at UW after graduating from Lander Valley High School. With Tanner’s scholarship, new Wyoming Head Coach Craig Bohl said he wanted to send a message to other Wyoming athletes that there are opportunities on the Cowboy football team. Himself a walk-on at the University of Nebraska, Bohl said Simpson “is a solid guy” who came to play.
