(Riverton, Wyo.) – Kerrie Metcalf of Riverton took this photo of the “Supermoon” at North Federal and East Sunset as the moon rose in the east. Thanks for sharing Kerrie! Sunday night’s moon rise featured the biggest and fullest moon of the year, the biggest because it is the closest the moon gets to the earth on its elliptical orbit. Sunday’s full moon appeared 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than when it is at its furthest point from Earth, which is why it is called a supermoon.
