Friday morning work may impact Federal Boulevard traffic in Riverton

(Riverton, Wyo.) – South Federal/Monroe update for August 8, 2014: Beginning at 5 a.m. Friday for several hours, a lateral pipe for the new storm sewer will be installed under the entire width of South Federal Boulevard.

During this time, single-lane traffic will be in place and flagged by flaggers on the project. The goal of workers is to complete the work in several hours to minimize impacts to north-south traffic on Federal Boulevard. Please slow down through the work zone, and watch for workers and flaggers.

A project flagger was struck by a driver/vehicle trying to enter the South Federal Boulevard roadway on Thursday morning. The flagger suffered minor injuries.

“We’d ask that all drivers slow down and exercise patience while driving inside the project’s work zone,” said WYDOT resident engineer Robert Scheidemantel of Riverton. “All flaggers are certified and have been doing really good and effective work in minimizing traffic delays and protecting citizens and workers within the work zone. Safety is our No. 1 priority on every highway project, but we need every person’s help to keep every person’s safe.”

Why couldn't the city of Riverton get a more competent contractor for this work? I used to work with the Colorado dept of transportation as a highway construction inspector and I've seen more work being done in less the time than what this contractor is doing. What doo they do besides push rocks around? Work progress is way slow, from the work I've seen being done, a better contractor would have already had passing complete, I mean it's not that long of stretch even with the under ground work being done, a more competent contractor would be striping the whole section by now, I mean come on, it's been on going since early spring, are they milking the contact ?
