(Lander, Wyo.) – Deputies were called to a hay field near mile post 67 on Highway 28 Monday morning for a reported disagreement amongst two men over the farming operation. Responding Deputies contacted the reporting party, 44-year-old Douglas Shepard of Lander. Shepard advised Deputies to speak with the other person on scene first.
Deputies then located the second person, who was identified as an 88-year-old Fremont County man; he was bleeding from the head and complaining of shoulder and leg pain. The older gentleman alleged Shepard had assaulted him by striking him to the ground and then dragging his body around.
An investigation into the assault ended with Shepard’s arrest after the investigating Deputy heard a recording of the incident. At the current time Shepard has been charged with battery, the case will be forwarded to the County Prosecutor for review of additional charges. (A booking photo of Shepard was not readily available.)
The victim was taken by private vehicle for medical treatment at SageWest-Lander; his condition this morning is unknown.
