(Riverton, Wyo.) – The generosity of Fremont County residents generated $21,350 for the Tough Enough to Help Cancer Fund at Tuesday night’s Wind River PRCA Rodeo Roundup. Tuesday’s total pushed donations over $200,000 in the seven years that a pair of chinks and chaps have been auctioned at the rodeo.
Help for Health administers the Tough Enough to Fight Cancer Fund and reported Friday the seven year total is now $212,150. The fund is used to support cancer patients.
Here’s how the total was reached Tuesday night.
When the auction began, Jasper and Ronja Ingalls purchased the chinks and Olson’s Autobody purchased the chaps. Olson’s then donated the chaps back, and they were auctioned again. Ray and Delene Berg then purchased the chaps and donated them back, and they were re-auctioned again. Bobby and Joy Lane were the final purchasers of the chaps. Total for the chaps and chinks auction was $9,850. Then, after the rodeo an anonymous person said they wanted to donate $10,000.
In addition, the Sundowner indicated they would also contribute $1,500, bringing the grand total to $21,350.
“In all honesty, we were pretty worried Tuesday evening. The weather was not cooperating, the arena was an absolute mess and we did not think it was feasible to do the auction in pouring rain,” said Teresa Nirider. “We had tentative plans of canceling the auction due to the weather. But as the time drew closer, the rain let up and people came out to support their community and all turned out great.”
Help for Health’s goal with the Tough Enough to Help Cancer Fund, is to maintain a sustainable assistance fund for the people of Fremont County who are battling cancer. Because of the generosity of so many people in our county, that goal has been met as well, she said.
Nirider told County10.com in an email that “Once again, words cannot not express the amount of appreciation we have for the support that has been given to our friends and neighbors. This money truly helps people when they are thrown into a financial and physical crisis. All we can keep saying, is thank you, thank you, thank you.”
