(Dubois, Wyo.) – A rescue mission to retrieve an injured man from an area near Gannett Peak ended yesterday afternoon without incident, Fremont County Undersheriff Ryan Lee reports.

Early yesterday morning, the Sheriff’s Office received a SPOT emergency activation near Down’s Fork Meadows, indicating a man was unable to move due to a back injury and was lying in some rough terrain.

Lee said a Search and Rescue crew from Dubois reached the man at about 9 a.m. yesterday morning. “They spent several hours carrying the man to a location where he could be airlifted out of the Wilderness,” Lee said. Air Idaho was able to extract the patient at about 3 p.m., and he was taken to the Jackson Hospital.

The SAR crew was extracted from the area as well and the mission was completed by 4:30 p.m.
