(Fremont County, Wyo.) – Rural Fremont County Fire Battalions were called out a few times last night and early this morning for fires.

On Monday, afternoon, Lander Rural Firefighters were called to Red Canyon for a grass fire. After some searching, they found roughly an acre of burned cheatgrass on the slope of the canyon, Chief Dave Peevey reported. The fire is believed to have started from lightning and then put out by the following rain storm.

Fremont County Fire Protection District Warden Craig Haslam said that Midvale Fire was called at about 8:15 p.m. to the 100 block of Lost Wells Circle for a structure fire. Haslam said the structure in question was an abandoned out-building; no major property destruction occurred. How the fire began is still under investigation.

At 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Morton/Kinnear firefighters were called to a vehicle fire on the 7500 block of Riverview Road. Haslam said when firefighters arrived they found an old limousine fully engulfed in flames. Haslam said the owner reportedly smelled something funny when she parked earlier that evening and later woke in the middle of the night to the fire. Haslam said the vehicle was a complete loss, but no other property damage occurred.
