Preparations already underway for traffic re-routing at County Fair Time

(Riverton, Wyo.) – Riverton Police, the Wyoming Department of Transportation and the Fremont County Fair have already begun discussions on how to handle traffic for the big fair coming up at the end of this month.

With South Federal under construction, especially at its intersection at East Monroe, and with the Riverview Road reconstruction in progress, manipulating the traffic will be tricky, said WYDOT’s Cody Beers on Friday. “We’re hoping to have the eastbound lanes of Federal open by the fair so we could have two-way traffic on a good surface,” Beers said.

Riverton Police Captain Eric Murphy reported that Fairgrounds Drive will once again be designated a one-way route during the fair. Traffic coming out of the fair will be directed north to North 5th and North Broadway.

For the Fremont County Fair Parade, Murphy said the Hill Street portion of the Riveriew Project should be available as a detour for eastbound traffic on U.S. 26 as the parade forms on West Main  by the college.

“It won’t be paved by then, but it will much smoother than it is now,” Beers said, noting that a paving subcontractor won’t be at the Riverview site until the middle of August.

“We’re asking the public to be patient with us as we figure out the best routes for the parade and the fair. It will be a big mess, but with the public’s help, we’ll get through it, Murphy said.

More information on travel routes will be publicized before the fair begins.
