Lander residents organize Pro-Marriage Picnic for Sunday at City Park

(Lander, Wyo.) — On Sunday, July 6th, from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Lander residents will have the opportunity to show their support for traditional marriage and religious liberty.  The gathering will be held at Lions’ Pavilion at City Park, and reflects the efforts of several local residents to promote a traditional understanding of marriage, the family, and liberty.

Organized by Lander residents Kevin and Michelle Roberts, the picnic will feature family-friendly music, games for the kids, and some good discussions about how we can be active in promoting traditional marriage in Wyoming.  There will also be a brief interdenominational prayer service.

“We will not be bullied into being silent on this issue,” Kevin Roberts said.  “As Christians, we respect all people, so to suggest otherwise is a ‘straw man’ argument.  Rather, the root of this issue is returning to a proper understanding of the human person, of the family, and of liberty. Government simply cannot ‘redefine’ nature, and proponents of same-sex marriage ought not bully others into thinking that they’re ‘bigots’ for supporting what nature provides.”  Roberts stresses that the gathering will be a “simple, peaceful, and friendly” picnic for people who promote traditional marriage and values.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert to share, as well as to wear something red, white, or blue.  For further information, attendees can visit the event page on Facebook.

The event comes a couple weeks after a LGBTQ Pride Picnic was held at the same location.

Heterosexuals are not persecuted because of their sexuality so generally there is not a need for them to celebrate their freedom from sexual persecution. Under no terms is anyone being excluded by LGBT gatherings or to discuss ways to persecute and exclude others from human rights. I have friends in the LGBT community, and in the Christian {?} community. i hesitate to use the word Christian in a broad sense, as Christianity is defined as a philosophy, and not a religion. Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, Mormon, etc, are religions and people who practice various religions are Christians. I have known throughout my life good people who have made a positive and long last friendship with me who practiced various religions. I can also make the very same statement of very dear friends in the LGBT community, some of whom are deeply involved in the religions of their choice. A marriage license is a piece of paper, it has no opinion, no agenda, and no consciousness. If Christians believe marriage is a devine decree, so be it, and the LGBT feel they have the same civil and respectable rights, that should be accepted as well. It's only a picnic.

I'm heterosexual and I support equal rights 100% because love is love!
