(Riverton, Wyo.) – Fremont County Undersheriff Ryan Lee said a 17-year-old Riverton girl was seriously injured at noon on Monday when she was ejected during a single vehicle rollover on Burma Hill.
The girl, whose name has not been released by authorities, was reportedly the driver and sole occupant of a 2001 Subaru Outback. Lee said the girl indicated “she was distracted by her cell phone and failed to negotiate a corner on the 300 block of Burma Road as she was traveling southbound. The driver lost control of the vehicle and overcorrected twice before the vehicle left the roadway and overturned two and one quarter times.”
Lee said the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, causing her to be ejected during the rollover. “Witnesses to the incident stayed with the young woman until emergency crews arrived,” Lee said. “She was transported to the Riverton Hospital with serious injuries. No other contributing factors to the collision have been determined.”
