Alcohol might be factor in Cheyenne dual fatality wreck
(Cheyenne, Wyo.) – Friday evening, June 27, 2014, at about 10 p.m., two Wyoming residents died in a two vehicle crash about 8 miles east of Cheyenne on the Interstate 80 service road. The crash occurred near the I-80 port of entry on the service road north of the interstate.
39-year-old Kyle Mitchell of Burns, Wyo., was driving west bound in a 1997 GMC pickup when his vehicle crossed over the center line into the east bound lane of travel where it collided head on with a 2005 Chevy Suburban driven by 51-year-old Tonya Gregory of Cheyenne. After the collision both vehicles were consumed with fire. Both drivers were declared deceased at the scene. The crash closed the roadway for a significant period of time as Wyoming Highway Patrol officers investigated the incident.
Specialized crash team members were called in to reconstruct the crash and officers continue to recover data from both vehicles as the investigation continues. Troopers believe alcohol use may have been a contributing factor leading to the crash.
As we enter this holiday week the Wyoming Highway Patrol reminds all drivers to buckle up, slow, down, don’t drink and drive and don’t allow yourself to be distracted!
