(Riverton, Wyo.) – Police responded to the 2400 block of Jade Circle at 7:46 p.m. Sunday evening on the report that a juvenile male had been bitten by a dog.
Captain Eric Murphy said two 9-year-old boys were heading to a neighborhood park and took a short-cut across a yard. As the boys were climbing over a fence, a brown and black dog bit one of them in the foot.
“It was a deep laceration and the bite went all the way to the bone,” Murphy said. The boy was transported to SageWest Health Center-Riverton for treatment.
“When our officers arrived, and approached the dog, it was not aggressive. We were able to make contact with the dog’s owner, who was not in town, but learned that the dog was current on all its vaccinations,” Murphy said. He said the owner’s brother-in-law would come over and put the dog inside.
No charges will be filed as the result of the bite. “The dog was in his own yard. It’s unfortunate that the child was bitten, but he was in the dog’s domain, in its yard,” Murphy said. “It would be different if the dog had been running at large, but it wasn’t.”
