(Lander, Wyo.) – The Wyoming Game & Fish Department, along with the Popo Agie Anglers and the Wyoming Life Resource Center, have developed an improvement plan for Luckey Pond outside of Lander.
According to the department’s monthly regional newsletter, the pond “has been suffering from low dissolved oxygen levels over the past several years. The levels of oxygen have dipped so low that fish kills have occurred during both winter and summer.”
The plan developed includes the installation of an aeration system to boost oxygen levels for the fish.
“Game and Fish surveyor, Doug Elgrin, completed a survey during March which will enable Pacific Power and Light to obtain an easement to run a power line to the pond,” the newsletter states. “Funding for the project has been secured through Wyoming Wlidlife and Natural Resource Trust and the PAA, with some in-kind matching from WGFD and WLRC. If all goes as planned the aeration system should be installed before next winter.”
