Last original Code Talker, Chester Nez, was uncle of Wind River Reservation woman

(Fort Washakie, Wyo.) – The last of the original 29 Word War II Navajo Code Talkers died June 4th in New Mexico. Chester Nez, who served in the U.S. Marines, was the uncle of Jolene Catron, who provided this photo of her family and her uncle.

Jolene attended the funeral services for her famous uncle and returned this week. She gave County10.com permission to use this video tribute of her uncle, one of the heroes of WWII whose efforts helped defeat the Japanese. To watch the video, click here.

It was an honor to be a part of his family. He was my uncle on his brother's side (Coolidge). We were honored to see him 2 years ago. Thank you Uncle Chester

The Navajo Code Talkers had a great deal to do with the US winning WW11. They deserved every bit of recognition they got and more.
