Wyoming’s toughest athletes will take to the pitch Saturday in Lander to decide the 2014 Wyoming Cup Rugby Championship. Competing for the title this year are the Central Wyoming Speedgoats (of Lander/Riverton) and the Jackson Hole Moose who have been an a tear lately, defeating teams throughout the Rocky Mountain West Region. The Speedgoats, comprised of Fremont County athletes, have been in existence since 2010 and have been growing competitive in a short amount of time.
“We feel like we are capable of beating anyone we play on any given day,” said Club President Mike Wachtendonk. “We’ve got to play almost flawless rugby on Saturday to win and I think we can.”
Admission to the rugby event is free. Kickoff is at 1:30 pm Saturday at the High School soccer field in Lander next to the location of the Lander Brew Fest which follows the matches.
