(Riverton, Wyo.) – A 38-year-old Riverton woman allegedly high on methamphetamine and liquor was arrested shortly after 8:46 p.m. at an address in the 400 block of North 2nd East after she became violent with family members. Booked on charges of Battery, Battery-Domestic Violence, Possession of Methamphetamine and Child Endangerment was Constancia Cortes.
According to a Riverton Police Report, a 911 call reported an active fight underway between three women, and that a child had been assaulted in the process. When officers arrived they found the three women, Cortes, her mother and a family friend.
According to the police report, “the mother said her daughter came home high and drunk and acting crazy like a lunatic, hitting her, pulling her shirt and pulling her hair.” A family friend at the residence, who tried to break up the assault, was then assaulted herself. At some point during the scuffle, the report said Cortes’ 6-year-old son was struck, knocking him to the ground. That’s when officers arrived to find mom’s blouse had been torn, and there was swelling, redness and scratches on her arms. Cortes was then taken into custody, and she allegedly admitted to using meth. The police report said there were track marks on her right arm consistent with drug use. She was given a breath test and it revealed an alcohol content of .27 percent on top of the meth high. The woman was also found with a glass pipe in her possession that is commonly used to smoke meth, the report stated.
The Department of Family Services was contacted and took the child into protective custody.
