Woman high on meth and booze assaults her child and family, was arrested

(Riverton, Wyo.) –  A 38-year-old Riverton woman allegedly high on methamphetamine and liquor was arrested shortly after 8:46 p.m. at an address in the 400 block of North 2nd East after she became violent with family members. Booked on charges of Battery, Battery-Domestic Violence, Possession of Methamphetamine and Child Endangerment was Constancia Cortes.

According to a Riverton Police Report, a 911 call reported an active fight underway between three women, and that a child had been assaulted in the process. When officers arrived they found the three women, Cortes, her mother and a family friend.

According to the police report, “the mother said her daughter came home high and drunk and acting crazy like a lunatic, hitting her, pulling her shirt and pulling her hair.” A family friend at the residence, who tried to break up the assault, was then assaulted herself. At some point during the scuffle, the report said Cortes’ 6-year-old son was struck, knocking him to the ground. That’s when officers arrived to find mom’s blouse had been torn, and there was swelling, redness and scratches on her arms. Cortes was then taken into custody, and she allegedly admitted to using meth. The police report said there were track marks on her right arm consistent with drug use. She was given a breath test and it revealed an alcohol content of .27 percent on top of the meth high. The woman was also found with a glass pipe in her possession that is commonly used to smoke meth, the report stated.

The Department of Family Services was contacted and took the child into protective custody.

Addiction knows no boundaries. We need to change our thinking…

"Both domestic violence and substance abuse are "community" issues. They can affect anyone regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, marital status, socioeconomic status, education level, and profession. While substance abuse DOES NOT CAUSE domestic violence, the two often co-occur and may exacerbate each other. Recognizing this relationship and addressing the intersection of these issues with a collaborative effort, although substance use and Domestic Violence are separate problems, both often occur at the same time and exacerbate each other. This can make it increasingly difficult for someone to effectively address either of these issues."

She will finally get what she has coming to her. She has been abusing and neglecting her son for all his life! Lunatic. Maybe she will get the help she needs for not only her drug addiction, but for her mental illness as well!!!

Abuse in all forms has a "Child Endangerment" sentiment about it.
