(Lander, Wyo.) – The City of Lander reports that construction of the Lander Community Center is on track for for completion in August 2014. Construction for the $5.8 million, 19,000-square-foot facility began last August.
Funding for the new community center has been provided by a variety of sources: Wyoming Business Council, Wyoming State Loan and Investment Board, Wyoming Association of Municipalities, City of Lander, and local fundraising, Community Resource Coordinator Gary Michaud said. Local fundraising efforts have included concerts, events, donations, room sponsorships, and bricks and pavers.
Only $200,000 of the $1.5 million local fundraising goal remains. The fundraising committee is also planning a “Guns, Boots, & Brands” event for Nov. 15, to be held at the community center.
“I am extremely pleased with the sheer number of local residents who have financially donated to the community center,” Councilman and Campaign Chair Cade Maestas said. “Hundreds of people and businesses have made donations ranging from $10 to $250,000. That speaks volumes about the support for the new community center – it makes me extremely proud to be a Lander resident.”
One of the current fundraising efforts, community center brick pavers and bronze stones, will end on June 20 to ensure their timely installation. The brick pavers cost $100-$500 depending on size. The pavers will be placed around an outdoor fireplace at the community center. Prototypes of the pavers can be seen at the entryway of Lander City Hall.
Any donations over $2,000 will be recognized by rocks in a bronze river inside the community center gallery. The river will be designed and produced by Eagle Bronze of Lander, the largest bronze foundry in the United States.
Forms to receive either bricks or bronze stones can be filled out at Lander City Hall.
Michaud said he knows of many people still planning to donate to the community center. “I urge those who plan to purchase a brick or stone to do so by June 20th so that we can recognize them when the community center opens.”
