Emergency crews responded to single vehicle wreck on West Main in Riverton

(Riverton, Wyo.) – Emergency crews responded to a one-vehicle wreck on West Main in Riverton. The male driver from the scene reportedly fled but was located by Riverton Police.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the driver flee the vehicle immediately after the crash, go through a gate in a fence and attempt to get into an apartment. He than ran when he couldn’t get in. Police caught up with him shortly after. The driver was reportedly the only occupant of the vehicle.

The force of the crash whipped the rear of the car so that it wedged itself between the base of the sign and a light pole on the sidewalk. The driver was treated at the scene and then transported to SageWest-Riverton for observation.

The driver of the crashed vehicle was reported to be Matthew Smith, according to the RPD. Smith was arrested early in April after he was involved in a high speed chase that began on the west side of Riverton and ended when he crash his vehicle on the East Pavillion Road. Smith is a Kinnear area resident.

How did that car get wedge between the sign and the post happy no one was hurt.

  2. Nathan Dodge

Jolene when the front of the car impacted the concrete the rear would have lifted. And since the impact in the front was of to the passenger side the rear of the car would swing around placing it in between the posts.

So, why wasn't he in jail from charges when he had the last high speed chase?
