Laramie, Wyo. (June 5, 2014) – ESPN announced on Thursday that the Sept. 6, 2014, meeting between the Wyoming Cowboys and Air Force Falcons will be televised on ESPNU, with kickoff set for 8:15 p.m., Mountain Time from Wyoming’s War Memorial Stadium. This is the second consecutive season that the Wyoming-Air Force game will be televised on ESPNU. The Cowboys won last year’s meeting at the Air Force Academy by a final score of 56-23.
The 2014 meeting will be the 53rd meeting in the series between the two Front Range rivals. Air Force leads the overall series with 27 wins to Wyoming’s 22. There have been three ties in the series history. The Cowboys and Falcons first played each other in 1957, and beginning in 1980 have played each other every season since. This year’s meeting will mark the 35th consecutive season the two teams have played.
The 2014 game will be the Mountain West Conference opener for both schools. In this, the 16th season of play for the Mountain West, Wyoming will be opening conference play against Air Force for the eighth time in the 16 seasons.
The Wyoming Cowboys will be featured on at least five ESPN network telecasts as part of the 2014 Mountain West Conference television package with ESPN. Four Wyoming Saturday games selected for television by the ESPN networks will combine with a Friday, Nov. 7 home game versus Utah State on ESPN2 to give the Cowboys five ESPN appearances during the conference portion of the schedule.
The first Cowboy game to be carried on an ESPN network during the 2014 season will be the Saturday, Sept. 6 home game versus Air Force. On Saturday, Oct. 18, Wyoming’s home game versus San Jose State will be carried by the ESPN networks. The one Wyoming road game selected was the Saturday, Nov. 1 game at Fresno State. ESPN2 will carry the Friday, Nov. 7 game between Wyoming and Utah State, and the final ESPN network telecast of a Wyoming home game in 2014 will be onSaturday, Nov. 22 versus Boise State.
Game times and specific outlets for the remaining ESPN network games will be determined during the course of the regular season, and will generally be announced 12 days prior to the date of the game.
Wyoming was featured on ESPN networks three times in 2013, including two ESPN2 telecasts — once at home vs. Fresno State and once on the road at Boise State. The Cowboys road game at Air Force in 2013 was carried on ESPNU.
On May 29, the PAC-12 Conference announced television coverage for the Sept. 13 game to be played between the Wyoming Cowboys and Oregon Ducks in Eugene, Ore. The Cowboys and Ducks game is scheduled to kick off at Noon, Mountain Time (11 a.m., Pacific) and will be televised on the PAC-12 Network.
Earlier in May, it was announced by the Big Ten Conference that Wyoming’s Sept. 27 game at Michigan State would kick off at 10 a.m., Mountain Time (Noon, Eastern) and be televised by either ESPN, ABC or the Big Ten Network.
At least seven Wyoming football games in 2014 are now scheduled to be televised on a national television network.
