(Riverton, Wyo.) – In an effort to get input from across Fremont County on the future of air service at Riverton Regional Airport, a task force working on the issue will meet Thursday in Pavillion. Councilor Richard Gard, who serves on that committee, said the meeting will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Pavillion Recreation Center.
In a report to the council Tuesday night, Gard said at last month’s meeting of the task force, a delegation from Cody’s Yellowstone Regional Airport attended and discussed the steps they went through in enhancing air service there. Cody has flights to both Salt Lake City and Denver, and coming this summer, flights to and from Chicago.
“The other problem we are facing is the reconstruction of the main runway next year, and that is going ahead at a cost of $15 million,” Gard said. “The city’s portion is $400,000 as the bulk of the cost is being funded by the Federal Aviation Administration and some from Wyoming Aeronautics,” he said. “So we’re going ahead with that, were’ in the queue (for the work to be done) and there’s no way out.” Gard said the task force, in cooperation with Wyoming Aeronautics, “is still probing all possibilities” in its goal to enhance commercial air service here.
