13-year-old girl injured in ATV v. vehicle wreck Monday afternoon

(Riverton, Wyo.) – Fremont County Undersheriff Ryan Lee reports that a 13-year-old Riverton was injured at about 3 p.m. on Monday in an ATV v. vehicle wreck on Cliff Drive north of Riverton.

“The girl was taken to the hospital by her parents for an injury sustained to her leg,” Lee said. “The girl apparently failed to yield to oncoming traffic and drove out directly in front of a north bound vehicle operated by a 43-year-old Riverton woman.”

The report of this wreck came within minutes of a call in Lander where an 11-year-old girl on a scooter was struck by car on North Second Street. The girl was transported by ambulance to SageWest-Lander. As of yesterday afternoon, the girl was believed to be in OK condition. Lander Police are continuing their investigation.

No citations have been reported in either wreck at this time.

Kids should not be playing on the streets.

  2. Randy Ray

I totally agree. I thought you had to be a licensed driver to operate on the roads.

  3. Connie Johnston

The parents should not have let this girl operate an ATV in town. Not only is it dangerous, but it is also illegal!

  4. Teri Wiblemo

It was not in town. This was 7 miles outside of Riverton.

  5. Mona Stephenson

it is illegal you have to have a valid license and appropriate gear my grandson drove to his Friends house only 1 mile on an out of town road got stopped by a sheriff patrol and i had to go get him and my husband had to drive it home. So until you are 16 it is against the law!

  6. Randy Ray

Teri Wiblemo It doesn't matter where it was. It is still illegal. This is one of the reasons why our auto insurance is so high in this state.

  7. Randy, I believe Teri was only clarifying location. I'm pretty sure she knows it's illegal, as everyone living in Wyoming does.
