Waterspout photographed high in the Winds Saturday; Could be the highest ever on record

(Riverton, Wyo.) – The National Weather Service office in Riverton is reporting today that a waterspout was observed this past weekend on Dollar Lake in Sublette County, very close to the Teton and Fremont County lines. A weather spotter who was working on the Green River Lakes road saw the phenomenon and photographed it.

The NWS in Riverton did some checking and believe that this may be the highest elevation waterspout ever recorded, which occurred at an elevation of 7,782 feet.

Tobi and I were kayak fishing on Dollar Lake on Sat. Arrived at 11:00am. Saw the sky get very dark and heard thunder so we exited the lake ASAP. Loaded the kayaks and left the area at about 1:00pm. Very windy to say the least.
