Candidate filings for Primary Election closed ; Independents will file in August; Several interesting races to watch
(Fremont County, Wyo.) – Filings are now finalized for state and local elections. The filing period ended at the close of business Friday. Candidates are listed below by office sought:
U.S. Senator – Incumbent Republican Mike Enzi has filed for re-election. Republican James ‘Coaltrain’ Gregory of Jackson filed on Thursday. On Friday, Thomas Bleming of Lusk, Arthur Bruce Clifton of Cheyenne and Bryan E. Miller of Sheridan joined the race. Four Democratic candidates have filed for election: William Bryk of Brooklyn, N.Y., Al Hamburg of Torrington, Rex Wilde of Cheyenne, and Charlie Hardy of Cheyenne.
U.S. Representative – Incumbent Republican Cynthia Lummis of Cheyenne has filed for re-election. Republican Jason Adam Senteney of Yoder also has filed for the seat. There is only one candidate on the Democratic ticket, Richard Grayson of Albin.
Governor – Incumbent Republican Matt Mead has filed for re-election. The other candidates are Republican Cindy Hill and Taylor Haynes, both of Cheyenne. Democrat Pete Gosar of Laramie has also filed.
Secretary of State – Four Republican have filed for candidacy for this seat. They are: Ed Buchanan of Torrington, Pete Illoway of Cheyenne, Ed Murray of Cheyenne, and Clark Stith of Rock Springs. No Democrats filed.
State Auditor – Incumbent Republican Cynthia I. Cloud of Cody is the only person to have filed in either party.
State Treasurer – Incumbent Republican Mark Gordon of Buffalo will be challenged by Ron Redo of Cheyenne. There is no Democrat running.
Superintendent of Public Instruction – Republicans Jillian Balow and Sheryl Lain, both of Cheyenne, and Bill Winney of Bondurant filed. Democrat Mike Ceballos of Cheyenne will face the Republican primary winner.
Wyoming Ninth Judicial District Circuit Court Judge in Riverton – Incumbent Wesley A. Roberts has filed for retention.
Wyoming Senate District 25 – Republican Incumbent Cale Case of Lander will face three challengers: Allen Whiteman of Riverton, plus Jennifer McCarty and Joe Malek, both of Lander. Democrats running are Sergio Maldonado Sr. of Lander and Travis C. Brockie of Fort Washakie..
Wyoming House District 28 – Incumbent Republican Nathan Winters has filed for re-election. No Democrat filed in that district.
Wyoming House District 33 – Two Republicans, Jim Allen of Lander and Daniel Cardenas of St. Stephen’s, filed for this seat along with Democrats Wilfred J. Ferris III of Fort Washakie and Andrea Clifford of Riverton.
Wyoming House District 34 – Incumbent Republican Rita Campbell of Shoshoni will face a primary challenge from three other candidates: Frank Lajeunesse of Riverton plus Tim Salazar and Pat L. Moore of Dubois.
Wyoming House District 54 – Incumbent Republican Lloyd Larsen has filed for re-election. No Democrat filed.
Wyoming House District 55 – Incumbent Republican David Miller has filed for re-election. No Democrat filed.
Fremont County Commissioner District 1 – Incumbent Democrat Keja Whiteman of Arapahoe has filed for re-election. Republican primary hopefuls are Valaira Whiteman of St. Stephen’s and Mark Lambert of Fort Washakie.
Fremont County Commissioner District 3 – Incumbent Republican Travis Becker has filed.
Fremont County Commissioner District 4 – Republican Ray Price and Kathleen Cramer Averill have both filed. No Democrat filed. (Independent incumbent Steff Kessler has announced her intention to seek re-election, but Independent candidates do not file for office until August.)
Fremont County Assessor – Incumbent Republican Tara Berg is the only filing.
Fremont County Attorney – Incumbent Republican H. Michael Bennett has filed for election after being appointed in 2013. Republican Patrick Lebrun has filed for the seat.
Fremont County Clerk – Incumbent Republican Julie Freese is the lone filing for this seat.
Fremont County Clerk of the District Court – Incumbent Republican Kristi Green is the only filing for the seat.
Fremont County Coroner – Two Republicans have filed for candidacy: Mark Stratmoen of Riverton and Dominick Weigel of Lander.
Fremont County Sheriff – Incumbent Republican Skip Hornecker will be challenged by Republican Mark Stone of Riverton. No Democrats filed.
Fremont County Treasurer – Incumbent Republican H. Scott Harnsberger is the only candidate who filed.
City of Lander
Mayor – Del McOmie and Dan Hahn have filed for the seat.
Council Ward 1 – Incumbent Monte Richardson and RaJean Strube Fossen have filed.
Council Ward 2 – Ed Patik is the lone candidate.
Council Ward 3 – Incumbent Nancy Pieropan has filed for re-election and is the only candidate.
City of Riverton
Mayor – John Larsen Baker and Richard P. Gard have both filed.
Council Ward 1 – Kyle Larson has filed for this seat. He was appointed in February 2014. He is the only candidate.
Council Ward 2 – Former council member Lee Martinez is in the race with Sarah L. Kalbach.
Council Ward 3 (4-year term) – Michael Bailey is the lone candidate who filed.
Council Ward 3 (2-year unexpired term) – Currently held by Martin Cannan, appointed in February 2014. He is the lone candidate.
Town of Dubois
Mayor – Incumbent Twila Blakeman is the lone candidate.
Two council seats – Candidates are Patricia Neveaux Michael Alexander and Bruce J. Thompson.
Town of Hudson
Mayor – Mike Anderson is the lone candidate.
Two council seats – Filing on Friday were Mary Frances Fenton and Julie Thomas.
Town of Pavillion
Mayor – Incumbent Gary Hamlin along with. E. Tex Frazier.
Two council seats – Bud Kisling, Richard Johnson and Ryan Memering all filed.
Town of Shoshoni
Mayor – Incumbent Scott Peters has filed for re-election and will be challenged by Vanessa K. Dickinson.
Two council seats – Lea M. Delay has filed for re-election along with challengers Linda Manz and Bill Marcus.
