(Riverton, Wyo.) – Even though Mike Bailey filed his candidacy for the Riverton City Council Ward 3 four-year term last Friday, he announced his candidacy Thursday night. Bailey said his goal in seeking election is to enhance Riverton’s fiscal efficiency and effectiveness.
His statement is as follows:
“With family, friends and supporters at his side, Mike Bailey formally announced today his candidacy for Riverton, Wyoming’s City Council.
When asked what his primary motivation was for running Mike said, “Riverton has been my family’s home and our place of business for almost 5 decades. Thanks to the support of Fremont County, Bailey Enterprises has successfully moved into communities across Wyoming. With voter’s permission I hope to instill the business knowledge and leadership I’ve garnered throughout my career towards assisting Riverton with not only fiscal efficiency and responsibility, but also creating an environment that is attractive to businesses and individuals to live here.”
Commitment is not foreign to Mike’s lifelong work ethic. Michael V. “Mike” Bailey entered the family business as a full-serve island attendant at the age of 12 years old and has worked full time in the business since 1976. Mike worked his way through almost every position in the company, learning and moving up the ladder until he became President and CEO in 2002 when is father Charles R. “Ron” Bailey retired.
As a hands-on business owner Mike works in every aspect of his business. He holds a Class A Commercial License with HazMat, tanker, dual/triple and air brake endorsements. When working at Bailey Oil Company, their convenience stores, tire stores or pouring coffee at the café, Mike proudly wears the company’s uniform alongside his employees.
A dedicated father of nine, Mike is married to June (Osborne) Bailey. They live in Riverton and are both lifelong residents of Fremont County and Wyoming. Mike said candidly, “Our youngest son just graduated from Riverton High School & our daughter just graduated from UW. I’m not sure empty nesting suits me, so now I have the time to get more involved with helping to improve our Riverton Community.”
Mike’s community involvement is extensive. He is an avid supporter of Community Entry Services & Child Development Services. Mike was a key player in a Wyoming state grant awarded to IDEA Inc. for the construction of the Smart Start child care center in Riverton. He is currently the Chairman of the Riverton Police Foundation, Vice Chairman of the City of Riverton Planning Commission and is a Precinct Committeeman in the Fremont County Republican Party. Mike has also served as Past President of the Leadership Fremont County Board, Past President of the Riverton Business Leadership Network, Past President of the Sertoma Club (now REACH), and Past President of the Riverton Kiwanis Club.
