(Riverton, Wyo.) – It was a short and dignified ceremony Monday morning when Veteran’s organizations honored their fallen comrades at Mountain View Cemetery on this 2014 Memorial Day. With a local Boy Scout Troop presenting the colors and the flags of the branches of the military as a backdrop, several dozens of spectators paid the respects during the event, held under a clear blue sky.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion and their respective Auxiliaries, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the U.S. Marine Corps League and the Disabled American Veterans all participated, laying wreaths and floral sprays at the cemetery’s Veteran’s Memorial before a reverent crowd of bystanders.
A 21-gun salute was fired by the Marine Corps League, Taps was played simultaneously from two corners of the cemetery, and the Rev. David Magruder, himself a U.S. Naval Reservist, played Amazing Grace on the bagpipes. As the pipes faded into the background, the ceremony concluded.
