(Fort Washakie, Wyo.) – On the last day of school, Fort Washkie High School art students completed a semester-long project in the painting of a buffalo. Teacher Leah Maltbie said the buffalo was bought for the school a few years back and the students worked on it this semester, finishing on the last day of the school.

About 8 students, 9th through 11th grades, painted on the buffalo. “The students each came up with their own idea/design and we came together as a class to assemble a composition that would incorporate everyone’s original/individual idea,” Maltbie said.

The buffalo is on display in front of the gym on the Fort Washakie campus.
