(Riverton, Wyo.) – A 23-year-old Riverton was arrested yesterday evening after reporting to Fremont County Sheriff’s deputies that ghosts were attempting to kill him and his 3-year-old daughter.
Jude Jenkins called deputies at about 7:45 p.m. yesterday evening while in Shoshoni, and requesting that the Sheriff’s Office “provide protection for both he and his 3-year-old daughter as people were trying to kill them,” Undersheriff Ryan Lee said. Ultimately, responding deputies located Jenkins operating a vehicle on Highway 789; he was subsequently stopped and questioned.
“Deputies found that Jenkins appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance,” Lee said. “During questioning Jenkins stated that he could not properly care for his child, and people were chasing him and attempting to kill him. Jenkins admitted to the use of a controlled substance and indicated he had stolen the vehicle he was currently operating in order to flee from people chasing him, which he identified as ghosts.”
Deputies then arrested Jenkins for Child Endangerment because it is alleged he “permitted or contributed to the endangering of the child’s life or health by violating a duty of care, protection, or support.” He was also charged with failing to properly restrain the child in a car seat.
The girl was taken into protective custody, and the vehicle owner declined to pursue criminal charges. Lee has not released information on what controlled substance Jenkins was believed to have been under the influence of. A booking photo was not readily available.
