(Pinedale, Wyo.) – The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the alleged Saturday morning shooting of a Riverton man in the area of the Dutch Joe Ranger Station. SCSO said that Emory Mahaffey of Casper was arrested in connection to the incident. Charging documents are still being prepared and the investigation is on-going.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office on Monday said that local deputies and Fremont County EMS assisted with the call that came in at approximately 5 a.m. on Saturday. The alleged victim was a 38-year-old Riverton man.
SCSO Public Information Officer Stephen Smith said the victim had been shot in an arm. “Sublette County deputies responded to the area and made contact with the victim who reported that he had been involved in an altercation with a male subject while camping in the Dutch Joe area,” Smith reports. The victim had left the scene of the shooting. “The injured party reported that he believed the other male involved in the altercation was still at the camp. Deputies responded to the campsite located off the Dutch Joe Ranger Station road and the lone individual, Emory Mahaffey from Casper, was taken into custody without incident.”
The Riverton man reportedly received some medical treatment and released.
