Richard Gard

(Riverton, Wyo.) – Riverton businessman and city council member Richard Gard today announced that he will run for mayor in the city’s municipal election this year. Gard has been a member of the city council for the past four years.

In his announcement, Gard said that he had “seen the value of good decisions to enhance the quality of the city’s economy as well as promote the ability of the city parks and facilities to best serve the residents.”

The Ward 3 council member said his philosophy for a public office decision maker “is that city government needs to apply common sense to every request and decision brought to the council by asking: Is it our Job? Is it affordable? and Is it sustainable?”

His complete announcement is copied below:

“I WISH TO ANNOUNCE MY INTENTION TO RUN FOR THE OFFICE OF MAYOR OF THE CITY OF RIVERTON, I HAVE SERVED ON THE CITY COUNCIL FOR FOUR YEARS AND HAVE SEEN THE VALUE OF GOOD DECISIONS TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF THE CITYS’ ECONOMY AS WELL AS PROMOTE THE ABILITY OF THE CITY PARKS AND FACILITIES TO BEST SERVE THE RESIDENTS.

I HAVE BEEN A RESIDENT OF RIVERTON FOR 55 YEARS, ATTENDING THE SCHOOLS THRU HIGH SCHOOL TO GRADUATION IN 1974. I RECEIVED AN EAGLE SCOUT RANK AT THE AGE OF 14 AND HAVE BEEN ACTIVE IN THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, HAVING HELD MANY LEADERSHIP POSITIONS. IN COLLEGE I MET AND MARRIED MY WIFE OF 38 YEARS, DEBRA ZOHNER GARD AND HAVE MANY FOND MEMORIES RAISING OUR SIX CHILDREN IN RIVERTON.

MY WIFE HAS TAUGHT PIANO AND SUBSTITUTED AS A TEACHER AT THE SCHOOLS. I HAVE CARRIED ON A FAMILY CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS FOR 40 YEARS, AS PART OWNER OF GARDCRAFTED AND PROFESSIONAL HOME DESIGN. OUR BUSINESS IS FREMONT COUNTY BASED AND WE HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY OF WORKING FOR AND EMPLOYING THE RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF RIVERTON AND THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY AND STATE OF WYOMING.

WE HAVE VOLUNTERRED OUR TIME TO THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL, JUNIOR JAZZ BASKETBALL, BABE RUTH BASEBALL, RIVERTON REC SCOCCER AND MANY OTHER ACTIVITIES IN WHICH OUR CHILDREN HAVE BEEN INVOLVED. FINDING RIVERTON AN EXCELLENT PLACE TO LIVE AND RAISE OUR CHILDREN.

AFTER HAVING RAISED OUR FAMILY, I HAVE CONTINUED TO BE INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY BY MAKING MYSELF AVAILABLE TO COACH, UMPIRE AND ATTEND AS MANY ACTIVITIES OF THE YOUTH AS POSSIBLE.

OVER THE LAST FOUR YEARS I HAVE ENJOYED THE TIME SPENT ON THE CITY COUNCIL REPRESENTING WARD 3. I BELIEVE THERE ARE MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF OUR CITY. I HAVE WORKED HARD TO ADVANCE THE OPPORTUNITY OF EMPLOYMENT AND MAKE AN ATMOSPHERE THAT IS CONDUCIVE TO PRIVATE ENTERPRISE.

MY PHILOSOPHY FOR A PUBLIC OFFICE DECISION MAKER IS THAT CITY GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO APPLY COMMON SENSE TO EVERY REQUEST AND DECISION BROUGHT TO THE COUNCIL BY ASKING:

IS IT OUR JOB?

IS IT AFFORDABLE?

IS IT SUSTAINABLE?

I WOULD ASK FOR YOUR VOTE AND CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR ME IN MY EFFORT TO MAKE RIVERTON A QUALITY LOCATION FOR RAISING CHILDREN, INVESTMENT AND RETIREMENT.

THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE

RICHARD P. GARD, COUNCiLMAN WARD THREE”
