(Lander, Wyo.) – In the wake of two recent vehicle thefts, Lander Police Det. Sgt. Fred Cox is reminding residents to not leave their car keys inside their vehicles.

At about 7 a.m. on Monday, City Plumbing reported that one of the business’s service vans had been stolen. The vehicle was located by the owners a little after 12 p.m. parked at the 789 Smokeshop on the southern edge of Riverton. Cox said all of the equipment that had been in the vehicle was still there, and the only item missing was the key. Fremont County Sheriff’s deputies assisted in recovering the vehicle. As of Tuesday morning, Cox said there were no suspects in the theft.

On April 20, police were notified of a 2008 Buick passenger car stolen some time on that afternoon. The keys had reportedly been left in the car. Cox said Bureau of Indian Affairs officers located the missing Buick on May 1 in a ravine in the Washakie Park area. The vehicle had been burnt to a crisp. Cox said there are no suspects in this theft either.
