Woodard leads Cowgirls Golf Team at MW Championships; Final round today

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (April 25, 2014) – The University of Wyoming Cowgirl golf team turned in a score of 317 (+29) on the second day of the Mountain West Championship on Friday on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club. UW is in ninth place in the nine team event at 627 (+51). Sophomore Emily Woodard continues to lead the Cowgirls sitting in 14th place on the par-72, 6,324 yard course in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

“The course played a little tougher today and we struggled with some hole locations,” UW coach Josey Stender said.

Woodard turned in a score of 76 (+4) on Friday, as she has now recorded six straight rounds of 77 or less dating back to the Mountain View Intercollegiate on March 28. After the first two-rounds of play Woodard stands at 150 (+6). Senior Stacey Blunt ended the second round at 77 (+5), as she is tied for 21st place with a two-round total of 153 (+9).

“Emily (Woodard) and Stacey (Blunt) rallied late in their rounds and I think that will give them great momentum going into tomorrow,” Stender said.

Junior Samantha Stancato turned in a score of 88 (+16) in the second round, as she is in 43rd place at 166 (+22).
