(Riverton, Wyo.) – An email that began circulating today warning Bresnan/Charter cable email subscribers that their account would be deleted if personal information was not submitted within 48 hours. The scam said unused accounts were being targeted, but the phishing message was sent to current users.
The scam has been reported to both Charter, who said the email did not come from them, and the Riverton Police Department.
Here is the text of the scam message. If you received such a message, do not respond to it or send any personal information to the address listed.

Subject: Bresnan Webmail Update
Dear Bresnan User,
E-mail upgrade is in progress for 2014. We are deleting all unused account to create space
for new ones and to prevent Spam mails to prevent your email account from losing data you
will have to update it below so that we will know it’s presently in use.
Warning!!! E-mail owner that refuses to update his or her email, within 48 hours of receiving
this warning will lose his or her e-mail permanently. You are required to send us the below
information via email to enable us update your account.
