(Lander, Wyo.) – World Book Night is tomorrow, April 23, and a group of volunteers will be canvassing Lander to give away free books.
“Several people will be passing the books out on Wednesday to the local food bank, schools, grocery stores and a few will be going up and down Main Street,” said organizer Amanda Winchester.
This is not the first year the group has given out books in Lander. Last year, 14 boxes were distributed around town. This year the amount has doubled to 28 boxes.
“Why does World Book Night exist?” asks the World Book night website. “Reading for pleasure improves literacy, actively engaging emerging readers in their desire to read. Reading changes lives, improves employability, social interaction, enfranchisement, and can have a positive effect on mental health and happiness. Book readers are more likely to participate in positive activities such as volunteering, attending cultural events, and even physical exercise.”
