(Lander, Wyo.) – Lander Middle School hosted a Nordic Ski Race at the Beaver Creek Ski Area at South Pass yesterday. The race was a 3.3 kilometer freestyle race which means the skiers can use any technique they choose. The Lander Valley High School Nordic ski team provided on-trail support and provided all of the timing support for the races.
Over 100 skiers were entered for a fantastic day of skiing, Matt Herr reports. Skiers came from Red Lodge Montana, Cody, Lander, Casper, Laramie and Buffalo. The 6th grade boys were led by Ethan Selley of Lander. The 7th grade boys were topped by Derk Lyford of Laramie and the 8th grade boys had a stellar performance by Albert Steiner of Laramie with an amazing time of 11:44.1.
The girls 6th graders had Ursula Anderson of Lander on top of the pack. The 7th grade girls we led by a great performance by Ana Dye of Red Lodge. The 8th grade girls had Macy Jacobson of Lander leading the way.
The high school nordic ski teams will meet next week in Cody, Wyoming for the WHSAA Nordic State Championships being hosted by Cody High School at the Pahaska Tepee Nordic Ski area near Yellowstone National Park. Following the State Championship races, many of these high school racers will continue training as they attend the Junior National Nordic ski races in Stowe, Vermont.
