(Lander, Wyo.) – Local businessman Paul Guschewsky spoke to LEADER Corp. this morning about a number of recent changes in the business scene that he has had a role in.
In the last year or so, Guschewsky relocated his acupuncture business from its location on Shrine Club Road to a new location on the 200 block of Garfield Street in order for Rocky Mountain Oncology to build a new facility.
Much of his discussion surrounded the recruitment of RMO as they had begun to plan to leave Lander for Riverton. He said he travelled to Tennessee to meet with RMO’s parent company to convince them he could help them build in Lander. Initially the plan was to move some of radiation equipment from another of the company’s facilities to Lander, but a chance snowstorm that occurred last spring while the board was visiting convinced them the remoteness of the location dictated the need for brand new, state of the art equipment.
Several in the audience agreed that Guschewsky’s forward action, taking the lead, was a tactic many local entrepreneurs should take.
Once he had turned over his former location to RMO, he planned to put AcuHealth Acupuncture in the building on the 400 block of Main Street that has been under remodel for the last six months or so. However, adding the new Sego restaurant, a new medical laser service and putting Sparked into the building eventually made him look for a new place for his business. The new businesses, he said, should result in the creation of roughly 10 new jobs.
Several others mentioned a number of positives coming from the expansion of cancer treatments. The new facility, slated for completion this summer, will likely bring in patients from other parts of the state and create a little bit of an economic trickle down effect.
“It’s been quite a ride,” he said.
The audience commended Guschewsky’s faith in Lander’s Main Street. There was also talk about a need for more downtown parking and other needs for a more thriving downtown.
