(Shoshoni, Wyo.) – Town of Shoshoni Administrative Assistant Becki Weber says crews are working now to find the source of the water break affecting the town’s system.

The break on town’s main line was discovered this morning. Weber said the break is somewhere below the town’s holding tank, having drained it completely. The valve to close to keep water from flowing out of the tank has not yet been located. So, water from the town’s wells are still feeding the tank, which is still partially feeding the town.

Water, as of 1:30 p.m., had be rerouted to be coming from just one of four wells. The water is potable. Mayor Scott Peters said someone started a rumor that whatever water was flowing through the system is contaminated. He said that is not the case. “The town has water, but we’re asking people to conserve it,” he said. Peters said the well could not sustain heavy usage by all users.

Peters said for a period of 30 minutes to an hour, water will not be available as replacement section of pipe is installed. He hoped that would be sometime late this evening while most people are asleep or early tomorrow morning. He hopes to have full service returned by tomorrow afternoon at the latest.
