(Fremont County, Wyo.) – Here is Wednesday’s law enforcement round-up from across Fremont County. All those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.

Riverton Police Department


18-year-old female, Riverton, was cited for Shoplifting and released with a promise to appear in court. The teen is charged with attempting to take $5 in food products from Smith’s Grocery on West Main. She was detained at 11:01 a.m.


A property damage two-vehicle crash with over $1,000 in damage was reported in the 600 block of North Federal at 12:02 p.m. between a white 2005 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2005 Ford Econoline van.

A Riverton resident called police at 12:30 to report the fraudulent use of a credit card. A report was taken.

An Elementary School Resource Officer reported a case of child abuse and/or neglect at 3:20 p.m. The report is under investigation.

At 3:34 p.m. a two vehicle crash was reported in the 500 block of South Federal at East Monroe causing over $1,000 in damages. The vehicles involved included a 1992 Mercury and a silver pickup. No other details were available.

A two-vehicle fender bender in a parking lot at Central Wyoming College was reported at 3:43 p.m. between a gray 2009 Nissan and a black 2011 Mazda. Over $1,000 in damage resulted.

Police responded to a third party report of a fight between a male and a female in the parking lot at Walmart at 4:49 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a woman sitting in a car with a scratch on her face and the male was gone. The woman said she got the scratch from falling down. Police left the scene.

No information was available on a controlled substance report at 11:09 p.m. from the student housing area at Central Wyoming College. The incident is still under investigation.


Lander Police Department


Janet Marshall, 52, Lander, cited for Shoplifting. At 2:19 p.m., police were called to Safeway for a report of a woman attempting to shoplift using her own grocery bags. Marshall is alleged to have attempted to take $161 worth of groceries that she was concealing in grocery bags she brought while she was purchasing other items. She was cited and trespassed from the store.

Anthony Martin, 27, Lander, LPD Warrant, Stop Light Violation and Expired Driver’s License. At 2:57 p.m., an officer on patrol pulled Martin’s vehicle over after running at red light at Main and Fifth streets. He was found to have an outstanding warrant and was arrested.

Bruce Gearin, 54, Lander, cited Property Destruction. Gearin was cited for property  destruction after a woman on the 900 block of North Ninth Street said she said him sliding on the hood of her car the night before. There were scratches on the car. She also believed he threw something at the windshield, cracking it.

Nelson Freeman, 20, Lander, Sweetwater County Warrant. Freeman was contacted at 1:22 a.m. on Wednesday after officers observed him riding a bike along Main Street without a headlight. He was taken into custody for the outstanding warrant.


At 9:58 a.m., police were called about a pit bull left out in the cold on the 300 block of Washington Street. Police found the dog had got its chain stuck so that it couldn’t reach shelter. The owner was notified, the dog untangled and blanket provided.

A man who donated to the Breast Cancer Society thought he might have been scammed when the phone number he was provided went to a recording. Police helped the man verify that his donation was given to a legitimate organization.

At 3:11 p.m., police were given a suspicious package containing a white powder found in the boys locker room at Lander Middle School. Police tested the powder and it came back negative for any kind of drugs.

A woman complained to police about a man who lets his five dogs run around in the fields near Baldwin Creek Elementary School.


Fremont County Sheriff’s Office


Derek Scott, 28, Riverton, Probation Revocation.

Tyler Smith, 25, Farson, Probation Revocation.

Tyla Trumbull, 27, Riverton, two Probation Revocation warrants. At 7:58 p.m. deputies were called to the 900 block of East Monroe Avenue for a report of a possible fight. The alleged victim denied any altercation, but Trumbull was arrested for the outstanding warrants.

Craig Woody, 32, Lander, Warrant for Child Abuse (Lander Police case). Additional details weren’t readily available.


A man on Bonnie Lane in Dubois reported someone stole medications from his vehicle while he was away for the weekend.

At 10:03 a.m., deputies were called to the 100 block of Western Avenue near Lander for a report of a man sitting on the steps of the a fire works stand burning paper towels. The Sheriff’s Office reports the transient man was move along and the building was not disturbed.

A hit and run that occurred on Sunday night was reported on Muskrat Lane in the Riverton area. The man reported that someone crashed into his fence.

A man on the 100 block of Elder Lane in the Riverton area reported at 9:58 p.m. that someone was his back door shaking the doorknob. No police action was taken.
