(Lander, Wyo.) – An incident in Lander yesterday has spurred Lander Police Chief Jim Carey to remind parents to keep an eye on their children’s activities on social networks.
At 6:47 p.m. on Tuesday, a man in town asked police to come speak with his 11-year-old daughter about some online activity she had participated in.
Police learned the girl via Facebook had invited an 18-year-old boy and a 19-year-old boy from the area to come over to her house. The older boys showed up, and the father kicked them out, Carey said.
He said the girl did not know the boys’ names, and police were unable to locate them. What the boys wanted with the girl is unknown. Officers talked to the girl about communicating with people she doesn’t know online.
Carey said this should be a lesson to parents to monitor their children’s Internet activity for their safety.
