(Fremont County, Wyo.) – A Fremont County computer specialist is warning the community about an upsurge in a Window’s related fraud.
“The local area has been getting hit with telemarketers calling from the ‘windows department of tech 24/7,’” Stacey Peranteaux reports. “They tell you that your computer has been infected while you were on the internet without your knowledge. They proceed to take control of your computer and then have access to any information you have on your machine. They charge you $109 for ‘fixing’ your computer. Don’t fall for it! It’s a scam! Never let anyone who calls you take control of your PC. I personally have received two calls from these folks on my cell phone.”
A number of individuals have reached out to local computer businesses and law enforcement asking about these types of calls. “I also received a call from Wyoming Community Bank, they have a customer there who is trying to dispute the charge because she got scammed by these folks as well,” Peranteaux said.
