(Riverton, Wyo.) – Midvale Battalion #8 Fire Chief Rocky McWilliams was named Fremont County’s Firefighter of the Year Saturday night in Riverton at the annual banquet of the Fremont County Fire Protection District. A 24-year-veteran of the fire district, McWilliams has held virtually every position that a member can hold.

The Midvale Chief was humble in accepting the award, crediting the honor to the the support of district volunteers and the community.

McWilliams’ list of credits is impressive: He has been certified as a Wyoming Fire Officer 1, NWCG Incident Commander Type 4, Wyoming Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate, he is a member of the Fremont  County Type 3 Incident Management Team and he is the current Chairman of the Local Emergency Planning Committee.

According to the nomination letter submitted on his  behalf, “Rocky has been a driving force behind the recruitment of new members and the retention of current members in the district. He has been instrumental in providing quality training to his battalion, and has assisted with numbers training throughout the district.”

Just this past  year, a new three-bay fire hall at Midvale was constructed, and McWilliams was credited with being instrumental in acquiring the property where the new fire hall was built.
