(Riverton, Wyo.) – This past holiday season’s Shop With A Cop was another success, said Riverton Police Captain Eric Murphy, who coordinates the program.
“We had 48 families participate this year with 107 kids. Together, they spent $8,700 on presents,” he said. “Since we raised $10,400 for the program, that gives us a carry over of $1,700 for this year. That will give us a little cushion to help more families next Christmas.”
Murphy also said the folks from Nabisco who provided Oreo cookies and an Oreo stacking game “were really impressed and they said they would do it again next year. The Elks Club helped us with a donation and they were also there giving out string backpacks and school supplies and Brandon, Walmart’s manager, was wearing the Grinch costume that the kids found awesome.”
Murphy said this past Christmas’ program “went off without a hitch. We had the most families ever, we spent the most money ever. It was a great one,” he said.
Law enforcement agencies from across the county participated in the program, in both gathering donations and in being there in person to Shop With A Cop, Murhpy noted.
