(Riverton, Wyo.) – The just concluded Mid Winter Fire School hosted by the Riverton Fire Department was termed “really good this year,” by coordinator Scott Walters. “We had about 420 firefighters enroll, and everything went off well,” he said. In addition to the firefighters, there were another 100 trainers and vendors who attended, lifting total attendance for the weekend to over 520 people.

Walters has coordinated the school for the past four years, and said he is in for at least one more year. “I’ve already started on next year’s program,” he said.

While Friday was reserved for Fire Chiefs and Firefighter Association meetings and such, Saturday was spent in the classroom and Sunday the classes went outside for practical experience. The grounds of the Wyoming Fire Academy was swarming on Sunday as the firefighters trained in smoke filled buildings, on rescues from a multi story building, putting out natural gas fires, working on vehicle extrication methods and much, much more.
