(Lander, Wyo) – The Don Stough Post #33 of the American Legion will again sponsor local competition for the Annual American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Competition in the Lander area.  The purpose of the Oratorical program is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the U.S. on the part of high school students.

This competition is available to any high school student in grades 9-12.
Competition will be held at the Post, District, Dept (State) and National level.  Awards include:
Post Level
1st place — $250 Scholarship
2nd place — $150 Scholarship
3rd place — $100 Scholarship
District Level
1st place — $200 Savings Bond
2nd place — $100 Savings Bond
3rd place — $50 Savings Bond
Department Level
1st place — $500 Scholarship
2nd place — $400 Scholarship
3rd place — $200 Scholarship
National Contest
$1500 each Dept Contestant Advancing to Nationals
$1500 each winner advancing through the sectionals
National Finalist
1st place — $18,000 Scholarship
2nd place — $16,000 Scholarship
3rd place — $14,000 Scholarship
Deadline for submission is Jan 31, 2014.  The post competition will take place on Feb. 9 in Lander.
