(Riverton, Wyo.) – Police are searching for information on a suspect in an alleged attempted armed robbery at the Family Dollar store Wednesday afternoon. According to a police report, a man wearing several layers of clothing under a black hooded sweatshirt entered the store with a white tee shirt pulled up over the lower portion of his face. The hooded sweatshirt covered most of his face. He allegedly approached a check out station and began pulling what the clerk describes as a black firearm out of his sweatshirt pocket. When the suspect heard other people in the back of the store, he slipped the weapon back into his pocket and fled the store.

For reasons unknown, the store clerk did not call 911 but alerted the manager. It was eight minutes before the store called 911 and by that time the suspect was no where to be seen. The store is located on the 500 block of Pershing, just behind the Safeway Store and Riverton Police Department.

The suspect is identified as a male about 5’8″ tall, about 150 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, and gloves and, as mentioned before, had several layers of clothing under a black hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information or knowledge about the attempted robbery is asked to call the RPD at 856-4891.
