(Fremont County, Wyo.) – “This one kinda caught us by surprise,” meteorologist Rich Miller said this morning from the National Weather Service Forecast office in Riverton.  While some snow was forecast, the overnight storm brought much more snow than anticipated.

Early today, Hudson and the Riverton Airport had reported about seven inches of snowfall, with a half-foot in Lander and similar amounts around central Fremont County.

“It should be done by mid-day then it will get cold tonight with single digits and below zero readings and stay cold on Sunday with single digit highs,” Miller said.

Call it a New Years surprise.
