(Riverton, Wyo.) – Riverton police are treating the discovery of the body of a 60-year-old man as a homicide, until their investigation proves different, Captain Eric Murphy said Friday morning. The man’s body was discovered in his apartment in the 800 block of East Adams at 4:45 Thursday afternoon. Investigators from the RPD and the Fremont  County Coroner’s office were at the scene until 2 a.m. this morning.

Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Stratmoen said the man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family. He also said the man’s body will be taken to Loveland, Colorado, on Saturday for an autopsy to help determine the manner and cause of death.

“We’re investigating it as a suspicious death until we figure out otherwise,” Murphy said. “It is standard procedure when there is no obvious cause of death.”
