(Lander, Wyo.) – Bill Lee, social worker at Lander Middle School, provided data to the Fremont County School District 1 Board of Education last week that showed that over the last four years, the percent of students who feel safe at school has increased from 79% to 89%, and the percent of students who indicate that they feel connected to one or more of the school’s teachers has increased from 83% to 91%.
In addition, the percent of students indicating that they want adults in the school to take action when bullying behavior occurs has increased dramatically, and the percent of students saying they want help or support from their peers if bullying behavior occurs has increased by over 50%. Mr. Lee credited the work done by the faculty and staff to change students’ feeling of connectedness and their willingness to trust and help each other.
The LMS positive results were recently highlighted in a book by Stan Davis entitled the Youth Voice Project.
