(Cheyenne, Wyo.) – Effective DUI task forces are an important mechanism for decreasing the state’s alcohol-related injury and fatality rates.
The Cheyenne area DUI Task Force is deployed at random times, usually during a holiday period, to saturate various locations within Laramie County with law enforcement officers patrolling for impaired drivers.
On Dec. 31 starting at 9 p.m. Troopers stationed in Cheyenne with the Wyoming Highway Patrol will be participating in the DUI Task Force with the Cheyenne Police Department, Laramie County Sheriff’s Department and the Wyoming State Parks Law Enforcement.
In addition to the DUI Task Force, increased presence and patrols by the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Laramie County Sheriff’s Department and Cheyenne Police Department will start on December 26th and conclude on January 1st in an effort to impact impaired driving and increase the safety of those traveling for the holidays.
These dates coincide with the New Year’s Holiday travel period of December 26th through January 1st, and the temptation for drinking and driving because of the yearend holiday. Our agency, along with our counterparts, will be targeting impaired driving in the Cheyenne metro area during the hours of 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
As part of this effort to increase community and highway safety, agencies will be utilizing DUI grant funding provided by WYDOT’s Highway Safety Program at different times throughout the event.
