(Lander, Wyo.) – PitchEngine, a new media and marketing software company headquartered in Lander, Wyo., has announced plans to rollout a statewide hyperlocal news network in Q1 of 2014. The announcement comes two years after the company unveiled their first news product, County 10, which saw overwhelming adoption by readers and advertisers alike in just a few months.
PitchEngine says County 10 has grown to reach more 15,000 readers daily by delivery, which they say has already surpassed the Monday through Friday circulation of the Casper Star Tribune, Wyoming’s largest newspaper.
“We’ve been formulating the model since day one,” explained PitchEngine CEO, Jason Kintzler, “We’re excited to bring the format to other Wyoming communities so that they can experience the kind of connection our readers have.”
Kintzler says that the model for County 10 is unlike anything in the country and that they’ve managed to monetize journalism in a time when everyone else is pulling back.
“In Wyoming alone, we’ve seen layoffs and downsizing – specifically at the Iowa owned, Casper Star Tribune. These type of newspapers are all trying a one-size fits all model and that just doesn’t work in a community like Wyoming. Around the country, most hyperlocals are trying to do what newspapers do, but online and that hasn’t been bearing much fruit either.”
Kintzler is a Wyoming native who recently penned, The New American Startup, a book chronicling the creation of PitchEngine from small town Wyoming. PitchEngine exploded since its launch in 2009 and has been used by more than 50,000 companies worldwide. He says this new product could be the company’s biggest yet.
“The potential for what we’re doing is tremendous. I believe we could change communities and empower journalists to become entrepreneurs at the same time. This goes beyond Wyoming and that’s exciting too,” he said.
The company plans to unveil the new brand, which won’t be called County 10, in the coming weeks. Kintzler says they’re finalizing a few affiliate partnerships around the state and will launch the brand once that’s complete.
